DO YOUR HOMEWORK BEFORE BUYING A PUPPY

Ian Dunbar has long been considered an authority on how to introduce a puppy into your world ...how you need to prepare, what to look for, what having a puppy will require, etc.  He has made his book available in PDF form.  Click on the PDF file to learn more

The owner of this site has been in the breed for 30+ years.  She no longer shows or breeds PONS but wants to make sure people are well informed before  purchasing a PON.

MORE INFORMATION ABOUT FINDING A REPUTABLE BREEDER WHO BREEDS FOR THE RIGHT REASONS AND DOES IT RIGHT!

One very good source of reliable dog information  is The Whole Dog Journal.  The August 2013 issue has a super four page  article called "A Field Guide to Ethical Breeders." Sometimes puppymillers are smooth and very convincing, but there are ways to identify them.  This article is well worth reading.  The journal is available by subscription unless your potential breeder or someone you know just happens to have a copy.   To learn more visit

Finding the right puppy and the right pon breeder takes time and effort on your part. Breeders listed on breeders list or with a great website may be misleading.  Years in the breed may not make them a  pon breeder you'd want to deal with. You must learn about the breed and how to go about finding a good breeder and puppy.  A puppy is most often a lifetime commitment and you want to make sure you do the best you can for you and/or your family.

Before buying a puppy, speak to many breeders, even those who may not live close to you to learn all you can.   Good pon breeders want to speak with you and get to know you as much as you want to know them.  Beware if someone tries to push a puppy on you, especially with lines like.  "I only have one left, so you have to decide now."

REMEMBER: Good responsible PON  breeders want the right home for their puppy as much as you want a good breeder who will stand behind his/her  puppy.  Using the e mail below you may want to contact the webmaster with any questions you may have about the breed .

Behavior Issues Yahoo Group

This is a yahoo group set up in 2004 for dealing with behavior issues with the Polish Lowland Sheepdog (PON.)  It has since become not only that but a place where people ask questions about health, share funny and other PON stories, etc.   You will have to go to the site and ask to  join telling a little about your reason for joining, and you will receive a welcome e mail when you are accepted.

The Official Book of the Polish Lowland Sheepdog by E. Jane Brown, Tomasz Borkowski. DVD,PhD and Margaret Supronowicz, DVM,  has long been recognized as the official authority on the Polish Lowland Sheepdog.  Great pictures accompany the vast information.    It is available from most major book stores and should be a must buy for anyone buying a puppy.

Written by Elizabeth Augustowski , Polish Lowland Sheepdog , is a great book to accompany the official book above.  Betty as she was known by her friends, was one of thr pioneers in bringing this breed known as the Polski Owczarek Nizinny into the United States.  Recognized by the Polish Kennel Club early on, she is one of the best authorities on the breed.   This , like the book above, is highly recommended for the new PON owner, or someone who is interested in learning even more about the Polish Lowland Sheepdog.
This amazing little book gives  the European perspective of the breed.  Not only does The Complete Polish Lowland Sheepdog  give a history of the breed , but goes into depth explaining the FCI standard.  In addition there is information about grooming,  living with, and caring for your PON.  To get a copy of Terrie's book  contact her at polishlowlands@gmail.com and payment can be made by  Pay PalThe cost is $20.00 USA dollars.
The sister  site to this website has much more information about the Polish Lowland Sheepdog(PON).   It talks further about training, activities the PON loves to be a part of...fun stuff you can do with your PON as well as much, much more useful information to help you get your puppy and ultimately your adult PON to be the wonderful companion and/or family member you'd like it to be.
